Plays about superheroes in the Marvel world are on tap for the next KIDS-N-CO. productions, set to debut this weekend.
“Hammered: A Thor & Loki Play” and “Mirror of Most Value” are MARVEL Spotlight Plays, directed by Raul Chavez and Katie Daniel.
“Hammered: A Thor & Loki Play,” deals with sibling rivalry, but these siblings have super powers. One is the Norse God of Thunder, Master of the Storm, Lord of the Living Lightning, and heir to the throne of eternal Asgard. The other born of a Frost Giant, but now he’s the Norse God of Mischief. Yet they are brothers, and together they are…The Mighty Thor and Loki.
As Thor struggles with the stress of final exams, his brother Loki finds himself under a different sort of pressure. Neither is beneath pranks in the endless competition for their parents’ favor.
But underneath all the thunder and mischief, these two Princes of Asgard discover a bond that will last millennia.
“Mirror of Most Value” deals with a normal teenager who gains super powers, but she still has to struggle through being a teenager. When a strange Terrigen Mist descended upon Jersey City, Kamala Khan was imbued with polymorphic powers. Her life was changed forever and so were the lives of her family and friends. Using her newfound abilities to fight evil and protect Jersey City, she became the all-new Ms. Marvel!
Kamala attempts to boost Ms. Marvel’s fledgling super hero profile by writing her own fan fiction. But when building a fandom becomes an obsession, Kamala’s schoolwork and relationships begin to suffer. To become the Jersey City hero of her dreams, Kamala must learn to accept herself just as she is – imperfections and all.
“Hammered: A Thor & Loki Play,” is by Christian Borle, based on the Marvel Comics by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber & Jack Kirby; while “Mirror of Most Value: A Ms. Marvel Play,” is by Masi Asare, based on the Marvel Comics by G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona & Sana Amanat.
“Hammered: A Thor & Loki Play” and “Mirror of Most Value: A Ms. Marvel Play,” will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. March 6, 7, 13 & 14; and 2:30 p.m. March 8 & 15, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 1340 Murchison. Tickets are $5-$7, at the door.
