UTEP Tennis Athletes Vivienne Kulicke and Milou Pietersz will travel to Flushing, N.Y., this week as they prepare to take part in the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships taking place from Nov. 3-6.
The duo will compete in the doubles category of competition at the USTA Billie Jean National Tennis Center beginning on Thursday.
As the only tournament on the ITA calendar to showcase elite players from every level of college tennis, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.
Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the ITA Oracle Cup Super Bowl, and the consolation champions, doubles finalists, men’s singles quarterfinalists and women’s singles semifinalists from the ITA Men’s and Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships.
In the first round of competition, Kulicke and Pietersz will be facing seniors Diana Bogalii and Rosalie Willig of Lynn University. The tandem earned a spot in the tournament by becoming the ITA Division II national champions in doubles for the second consecutive year and winning the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Oracle Cup doubles championship for the second year in a row.
