Lamar Elementary School joined with El Paso ISD leadership and Mayor Oscar Lesser Thursday to celebrate the campus’ designation as a National Blue Ribbon School for the second time in six years.
Lamar is among the elite group of schools in El Paso ISD who have achieved Blue Ribbon designation this year. Clendenin Elementary celebrated its Blue-Ribbon status with a similar ceremony in early May while Hawkins Elementary will celebrate next week. In total, EPISD is home to 17 National Blue Ribbon Awards – the most of any school district in the region.
“We have excellent teachers and everyone takes care of you here,” said fifth grader Dominka Hernandez. They make sure you’re doing your work. That’s why were a Blue Ribbon School.”
Lamar is one of the 26 schools in Texas honored as a 2011 Blue Ribbon and among the 325 in the nation.
