Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare hospitals recognized by Healthgrades for excellence in women’s care

Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare announced that its two El Paso hospitals received a Healthgrades 2020 Women’s Care Award.

Las Palmas Medical Center (including the Las Palmas Women’s Center) and Del Sol Medical Center are among the top 5% of eligible hospitals in the nation to receive a Healthgrades 2020 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award and Healthgrades 2020 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award.

“Throughout this unprecedented time, we’ve remained committed to providing women the highest level of care at every stage of their lives, and that commitment is underscored by this recognition from Healthgrades,” Don Karl, chief executive officer of Las Palmas Medical Center, said.

“We are so proud of our team for the care they provide our patients, and we’re grateful so many El Pasoans choose our hospitals to care for them during milestone moments in their lives.”

Healthgrades evaluated clinical outcomes for women treated at each facility during labor and delivery, as well as gynecologic procedures, from 2016 through 2018.

“We are honored to receive these Women’s Care Awards from Healthgrades, and I commend our women’s care teams for their dedication to our patients,” David Shimp, chief executive officer of Del Sol Medical Center, said.

“El Paso families have not stopped having babies during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve maintained our family-focused approach to maternal care while increasing the safety of our environment, and providing soon-to-be and new mothers the support they need.”

Healthgrades found that patients treated in hospitals receiving the award had, on average, a 40% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than those treated in non-recipient hospitals.

In addition, Healthgrades found that patients treated in hospitals receiving the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award had, on average, a 34% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than those treated in non-recipient hospitals.
