The Americas Trailblazers defeated the Del Valle Conquistadores by a score of 28 to 20 on their Senior Night at the Student Activities Complex.
In front of a home crowd that was limited to 2 parents per senior students due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Americas found themselves trailing until the last 2:22 of the 4thquarter.
Both teams would come out flat offensively trading two series of 3 and outs before Del Valle would be the first to find a rhythm offensively. QB Andres Gutierrez and Running Back Joel Serrano would lead them down the field into the red-zone only to have the drive stall on 4th and goal.
Serrano pulling double duty as the team’s kicker would start the scoring off with a 21 Yard field goal, putting the Conquistadores up 3-0. Americas would try to answer on the next series but Americas Quarterback Evan Chisolm would throw a pick 6 to Del Valle’s Brandon Tellez and after the extra-point Del Valle would be up 10-0.
On the ensuing drive, Americas would get going offensively with Chisom hitting a 40-yard pass to set them up with a first and goal from the 2-yard line. Americas stand out running back Aaron Dumas would find the end-zone on the next play with a 2-yard run, cutting the lead to 10-7 after the extra point.
Del Valle would answer the score with another drive that would stall inside the Americas 10-yard line and settle for a second Joel Serrano field goal to take a 13-7 lead into the half.
Americas would come out in the 3rdquarter and drive down the field to the red-zone where running back Aaron Dumas would score on a 19-yard touchdown run down the middle of the field. The extra point would be blocked and the game would be tied at 13.
Del Valle would open up the 4thquarter scoring with a drive that ended with a touchdown pass from Andres Gutierrez to Jakob Castillo that would put Del Valle up 20-13 with 11:52 to play.
Del Valle’s defense seemed in control and had the Trailblazers with a 4thdown and 3 on their own 25 when Trailblazer Back Aaron Dumas would rip off a 75-yard touchdown run with 2:10 left to play.
Americas Coach Patrick Milton elected to go for the 2-point conversion and the lead and who else but Aaron Dumas would take the carry into the end-zone giving Americas their first lead of the game.
Del Valle would not get a chance to run their two-minute offense, as their special teams would fumble the ensuing kickoff giving the Trailblazers the ball deep in Del Valle territory.
On the next series, backup quarterback Jacob Caraveo would toss a touchdown pass and put Americas up 28 to 20 which would be the final score.
