Lee and Beulah Moor Children’s Home Walk/Run for Families in Crisis returns next week

To stay safe while raising funds for an important cause, the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home will continue its 19th Annual Walk/Run for Families in Crisis as a virtual event all day Saturday, May 22.

“Last year, we created an Emergency Food Assistance Program, which provides additional support including meal deliveries, food boxes and grocery stipends,” said Renée Tanner, Chief Executive Officer for the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home.

“Although we’re gradually seeing a light at the end of the tunnel with this pandemic, the need for these services continues.”

For more than 60 years, the Lee and Beulah Moor Children’s Home, a charitable institution and qualifies as a 501(c)3 organization, has served El Paso’s children and families who are experiencing difficulty in their lives.  Home officials share that services are provided without regard to race, religion, culture, gender or financial condition.

As for the event, participants can either run a competitive 5K or walk for one mile.

All proceeds from this event cover the cost of food and meals provided to more than 80 children and families served throughout the year, including additional services established in response to COVID-19.

One of the many perks of keeping the event virtual is that participants can choose when and where to run or walk that day.

The 5K run will give participants a chance to compete for trophies and medals in various top categories. They must submit their run time, electronic bib number and a screenshot or picture of their pedometer by 11:59 p.m. on May 22.

“We were so grateful to see 500 people participate last year, including out-of-towners from places as far as Pennsylvania and Oregon,” Tanner said. “We’re hoping to see an increase this year.”

Organizers add that the first 300 people to sign up for the event will receive a T-shirt and goody bag. Participants can also submit pictures from their walk or run to vmolinar@leemoor.org by May 23 for a Facebook photo contest.

The picture that receives the most “likes” by Friday, May 28 will win a prize.
