The Lee and Beulah Moor Children’s Home will bring its 17th Annual Walk/Run for Families in Crisis to the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino this Saturday.
The annual fundraiser includes a 5K competitive run and a 1-mile non-competitive fun walk.
All proceeds directly benefit the children and families served by the Home and will specifically help cover the cost of food throughout the year.
According to officials with Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home, many of the children they serve have experienced poverty and food insecurity.
“Families often have to choose between food and other necessities, like medical bills and housing,” said Renée Tanner, Chief Executive Officer for the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home.
“When children aren’t sure where their next meal is coming from, it’s difficult for them to focus on school priorities or their future. We help the children we serve improve their grades not only through tutoring and educational programs, but by ensuring that their essential needs are met as well – especially when it comes to healthy, well-balanced meals.”
Those interested in participating can register at the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home office (1100 East Cliff Drive, Building A), Up and Running (3233 N. Mesa) or online.
Online registration will close Wednesday, May 29 at 6 p.m. Online registration will include a processing fee.
The first 300 people registered will receive a goody bag and race T-shirt. Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall female and male runners.
The top three male and female runners in each age group, ranging from under 11 to above 75, will receive a medal. There will also be an award for the largest team. Prizes, entertainment and free refreshments round out a fun morning for the entire family.
