The City of El Paso Public Library is encouraging people of all ages to register for the annual Summer Reading Club!
This year’s theme is Oceans of Possibilities! The Summer Reading Club registration begins on June 3 and continues until July 15.
“Academic studies show that keeping students engaged in learning over the summer helps children avoid what’s called the Summer Slide, which is a phrase used to describe the learning gap that happens to students over the summer,” said Library Director, Norma Martinez. “To prevent the Summer Slide, our libraries will offer fun and interactive programming to help children stay engaged in learning, so they are ready to hit the ground running in the fall.”
Registration is free and easy. Simply visit the library’s website and register online by filling out a quick form or visit any of the library’s 10 open locations and register in person.
Participants are encouraged to read either 8 books or 8 hours depending on their reading level. People of all ages can register. Readers will be asked to keep a log of the books or hours they have read and can keep track in a new program called Beanstack. The Beanstack mobile app includes exciting features like a live reading timer and friend challenges.
Participants who complete the program will receive certificates of completion and a chance to win free tickets to an El Paso Chihuahuas game. Those who participate in the summer reading club will be able to earn prizes including books, restaurant coupons, Library merchandise, and more.
In conjunction with the reading portion of the club, participants will also be able to attend free programs such as magic shows, movies, guest appearances, clown shows, Chico the Chihuahua events, arts and crafts, and much more.
Information on the Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Club, including registration, is available on the El Paso Public Library social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok) or at www.elpasolibrary.org.
