Hundreds of El Paso Scouts gathered at the Chamizal National Memorial Park to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow, the Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America.
To commemorate the event, the El Paso Fire Department flew a flag display for the group’s Pledge of Allegiance.
“We recorded a little over 620 people that attended the event,” FST Kenneth Mills said, who is also a Scoutmaster. “Scouts always start every activity and event with the Pledge of Allegiance. So to have the aerial and a huge flag was a cool deal for them.”
Youth leaders and adult supervisors invited the public to the Chamizal to learn about the Honor Society and Scouting with the National traveling “Arrow Tour,” hosted by the local Yucca Council. The event featured Indian dances, a foam sword melee, water rocket launching, bat races, Arrow Tour branding and t-shirt screenings.
The ceremony took place on July 23rd.
