Local MAES Chapter set to hold 17th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament Friday

The El Paso Professional Chapter of the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientist (MAES) will be hosting their 17th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament to be held on Friday, July 22, 2016, at Painted Dunes Golf Course with a 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.

This event helps MAES – a nonprofit organization –  raise funds for scholarships to be awarded to local area students majoring in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematical (STEM) fields at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

The scholarships are awarded to high school seniors to help them get started in college and to currently enrolled UTEP students.   Over the past 16 years, MAES has  raised over $150,000 for scholarships from the net proceeds of this event. This effort helps support one of our main goals of focusing on assisting the professional and educational systems of our community “Growing Engineers and Scientists”!

MAES was originally founded in 1974, with a mission to promote, cultivate, and honor excellence in education and leadership among Latino engineers and scientists. Their vision is to be the model professional society that successfully raises the education level of America and develop committed leaders for tomorrow.
