Lone Star Invitational Begins Monday For UTEP Men’s Golf

The UTEP men’s golf team will head to the Alamo City to compete in its fifth tournament of the spring at the Lone Star Invitational, hosted by UTSA, March 19-20 at Biggs Ranch Golf Club (par 72/7,247 yards) in San Antonio, Texas.

The tournament will begin with a 7:30 a.m. MST shotgun start on both days, with 36 holes played on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.

Fresh off its fifth top-10 finish of the season on Tuesday at the Bandon Dunes Championship, the Miners will compete in the 15-team field that includes Conference USA foes Louisiana Tech, Rice, Southern Miss and host UTSA, as well as no. 11 Oklahoma, no. 64 Arkansas State, no. 36 Kansas, Little Rock, Louisiana, McNeese State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Texas State, and ULM. Oklahoma, the reigning NCAA champions, is also the defending champion of the Invite setting the tournament’s team scoring record with a 40-under 824 (278-279-267).

The Miners will return to action with the same lineup as the Bandon Dunes Championship, led by Nicklas Pihl, Charles Corner, Aaron Terrazas, Settavut Paradee and Oskar Ambrosius. The unit shot 10-over 862 (283-289-290) in their inaugural run at the Bandon Dunes, with Pihl pacing the run in his 1-under 212 (71-71-70) performance for a share of 15th place.

Corner and Terrazas are no strangers to the Lone Star Invitational, as last season they were apart of the fourth place team that shot a season-low 22-under 842 (277-280-285). Terrazas tied for sixth place after firing 7-under 209 (71-71-67) while Corner finished with a share of 11th after shooting 6-under 210 (71-68-71). The Miners’ 2017 score of 842 ranks fifth on the all-time list at the Lone Star Invitational.
