A man is arrested after El Paso County Animal Welfare and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office allegedly find evidence of cockfighting at a home.
According to a release from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO) on July 4, 2020, the El Paso County Animal Welfare Department was sent to the 1000 block of Kannermont Drive, north of Clint in Far East El Paso, in reference to cockfighting.
Through their investigation, Animal Welfare Officers determined that cockfighting had occurred at the residence and they notified the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Animal Welfare detectives adopted the case, took over the investigation and as a result a search warrant was obtained for the residence.
EPCSO officials say that investigators located “a cockfighting ring, several roosters – including injured and deceased roosters – along with other implements of cockfighting.”
Officials with Sheriff’s Office say 30-year-old Juan Eduardo Montanes was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for Cockfighting with a $5,000.00 bond.
The El Paso County Animal Welfare Department took custody of the roosters that remained on the property.
