Mariachi Festival returns, will be Bicultural Celebration of Unity in the El Paso Area

Officials with Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino announced Tuesday the return of  the Mariachi Festival at The Park.

The live music event, including mariachi and ranchera, draws thousands of people annually to this family-friendly, indoor event, that is free to the public.  This year’s festival is set for Saturday, August 24, from 5 to 9 p.m., at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino.

“Big crowds turn out every year for Mariachi Festival, but we feel that this year’s celebration takes on a special significance,” said Tony Chavez, marketing manager for Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. “In light of recent events, we encourage area residents to join us in celebrating the diversity that is unique to the border and the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez region.”

Additionally, performers from the up-and-coming musical release, “México Soy” will headline the list of talent singing at the festival this year.

The newly-released album is being met with excitement on both sides of the border. “Mexico Soy” artists Walterio Magdaleno, Joanna Bernal, Carlos Alberto, Paola Marin & Gerardo Fierro are all scheduled to perform during Mariachi Festival at The Park. The upcoming festival will also showcase the international premiere of the highly anticipated “México Soy” music video.

“México Soy” producer Manuel Castillo said, “We are excited to share a message of love and unity across cultures. That is what our area and the border are all about. We need to show that we are proud to be El Paso strong during these difficult times.”

In addition to “México Soy,” other bands scheduled to be on stage include:

Visitors to the festival will be able to enjoy an all-you-can-eat Mexican food buffet from 2 to 9 p.m. The buffet will be located adjacent to the festival inside Ventanas Bar & Grill.

Buffet prices are $13.99 for adults and $10.99 for children ages 3 to 10. Children under 3-years old may eat for free.
