Almost an hour after County Judge Ricardo Samaniego issued an order for all non-essential services to be shut down county-wide for two weeks, Mayor Dee Margo is reaching out to state officials for clarification on the order.
According to a release from Mayor Margo’s office, the County Judge did not inform the mayor of the order ahead of time and is now looking for legal guidance from the Texas State Attorney General’s Office.
Below is Mayor Margo’s full news release, as well as the letter to the Texas AG’s Office.
This afternoon County Judge Samaniego issued a shutdown of all non-essential services, and Mayor Margo is seeking clarification from the Texas Attorney General on the new County order.
“The Judge did not consult me and refuses to return my call, so I am seeking clarification from the Attorney General on the new County order, which does not supersede the Governor’s orders,” said Mayor Dee Margo.
Mayor Margo went on to say “What I can speak to is the hurt our community is going through. We must strike a balance of keeping our neighbors safe while not destroying people’s abilities to feed their families.”
