UTEP Men’s Golf in 10th Place After 18 Holes at Western Intercollegiate

Santa Cruz, Calif.– The UTEP men’s golf shot an opening round 12-over par 364 on Monday at the Pasatiempo Golf Club. The field at the Western Intercollegiate is one of the toughest the Miners have faced all year.

No. 26 Oregon leads the way with a nine-under par 341. Other teams in the 14-team field include #1 USC, #5 Arizona State, #6 Stanford, #13 California, #22 San Diego State and #25 Washington (according to Golfstat).

The format for this tournament is a tad bit different than the regular play five, score four format. In this event, it is a play six, score five style of play. The Pasatimepo Club is playing as a par 70 this week at 6,615 yards.

Andreas Sorenson had the low round of the day for the Miners with a one-under par 69 and he sits tied for 13th. The Denmark native put together a very clean card that included two birdies, 15 pars and one bogey.

Frederik Dreier is one shot off of Sorenson’s pace with an even par 70 (tied for 21st). Dreier’s card was just as clean as Sorenson’s with one birdie, 16 pars and one bogey.

Ben Getman put together a solid round of two-over par 72 to be tied for 38th. Jose Romero, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 53rd at three-over par (73). Nicklas Pihl (five-over par/tied 64th), Prescott Mann (six-over par/tied 73rd) and Charlie Corner (nine-over par/tied 83rd) rounded out play for UTEP on day one.

Round two will begin tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. (MT) and live results will be available at golfstat.com
