Mexican President: Fugitive Drug Lord ‘El Chapo’ captured

According to a tweet by Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has been captured.

The tweet was sent out this morning, shortly after 11:30 a.m. (mst.) According to his tweet, the President stated ‘Mission Accomplished…I wanted to inform all Mexican citizens that Joaquin Guzman Loera has been detained’

There were no other details as to the location where Guzman was captured, nor had Mexican officials released any information on the operation undertaken to capture the fugitive drug lord.

The Associated Press reports at least five other suspects were killed when forces from the Mexican Navy moved in on Guzman, and one Mexican seaman was injured.
