LAREDO, Texas– The UTEP men’s golf team finished the shortened Border Olympics in ninth place with 1-under 575 (288-287). The first round of the tournament, held at the Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, was suspend due to rain on Friday for the second consecutive year.
Campbell had a stellar final round to slip past host Houston for the Border Olympics title after firing 17-under 559 (282-277).
After another week of strong play, Nicklas Pihl and Frederik Dreier finished at the top of the Miners’ scorecard, tallying 2-under 142 for a share of a nine-way tie for 14th. Pihl shot rounds of 74 and 68 while Dreier shot 69 and 73. Junior Charles Corner finished in another multiway tie for 37th after posting 1-over 145 (73-72).
Prescott Mann and Aaron Terrazas both finished in 57th after shooting 4-over 148. Terrazas shot 72 and 76 while Mann drew up two rounds of 74. Miner individual Andreas Sorensen rounded out the Miners on the field, finishing in a tie for 69th with 6-over 150 (75-75).
The Miners will travel to San Antonio, Texas, to battle in the Lone Star Invitational March 20-21. Live stats will be available via golfstat.com.
