After a strong fall season that saw three first place finishes out of five tournaments, the UTEP men’s golf team will begin the spring season January 23, as the team continues to build for the Conference USA tournament in April.
The team opens with the Arizona Intercollegiate Jan. 23-24 in Tucson, Ariz., before making the trip to Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii for the John Burns Intercollegiate Feb. 15-17. The team will head back to Tucson Feb. 27-28 for the National Invitation Tournament and then take off to Laredo, Texas to compete in the Border Olympics March 10-11.
The Lone Star Invitational will take place March 20-21 in San Antonio and the team will participate in the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif., April 8-9 before the Conference USA Championship April 23-26 in Texarkana, Ark.
If the team or any player qualifies, NCAA Regionals will take place May 15-17 at a site to be announced and the NCAA Championships will follow May 26-31 in Sugar Grove, Ill. Last season, current Miner senior Frederik Dreier participated in the NCAA Regional tournament after placing sixth at the Conference USA Championship. Dreier, the reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Year, finished in 57th place.
The Miner men will enter the spring campaign ranked 41st in men’s collegiate play by Golfweek.
