LAS CRUCES, N.M.- At the conclusion of day one and after 36 holes, the UTEP men’s golf team is in third place behind a sharp shooting UMKC team (one-over-par, 278-291-569) and leader Grand Canyon, which shot 11-under-par 557 (277-280).
Frederik Dreier is tied for second and trails leader Matt McClung of Grand Canyon by three strokes. Dreier fired five-under 137 (68-69), recording 11 birdies, and tying with Oral Roberts’ Cody Burrows.
Junior Charles Corner is not far behind after shooting two-under-par 140 (72-68), putting him in fifth place. Ben Getman, who is one of the Miners playing as an individual, is tied for 23rd, shooting three-over-par 145 (71-74).
Tying for 35th, Andreas Sorenson shot six-over-par 148 (75-73), one stroke ahead of fellow Miners Nicklas Pihl and individual Evan Macias, who are tied for 41st with seven-over-par 149. Pihl shot rounds of 73-76 and Macias 71-78. Once again not far behind from his teammates, Prescott Mann is tied for 50th after shooting eight-over-par 150 (73-77).
Rounding out the Miners scorecard and playing as an individual, Cole Donielson shot 12-over-par 154 (79-75) to finish day one tied for 69th.
The third and final round will begin Tuesday morning, the Miners will tee off at 8:15. Live scoring will be available via golfstat.com
