Miner Soccer to host UAB Sunday morning

The UTEP soccer team (2-3-1, 1-1 Conference USA) will host high-scoring UAB (6-2-1, 1-0 C-USA) on Sunday, March 14. The Miners and Blazers are set to kickoff at 11 a.m. at University Field.

UTEP is looking for its first victory against UAB since the 2012 season. The Miners are 0-4-2  the last six meetings against the Blazers.

The Miners are coming off a loss at Southern Miss, 3-1, on March 6. Emily Parrott kept busy, tallying a career-high 13 saves. Vic Bohdan scored the lone goal in the 78th minute. It was her 12th career goal, and first since Oct. 7, 2018 at WKU after redshirting last season.

Tessa Carlin leads the Miners in points (five) and goals (two), while also registering an assist. Carlin has recorded a pair of game-winning goals, which ranks tied first in C-USA and tied 27th nationally. Parrott leads C-USA and ranks 30th nationally in saves per game (6.0), while also leading the league in total saves (30). Kam Fisher has recorded three points on a trio of assists, which ranks third in the conference.

UTEP is 2-0-1 at home after its 2-1 overtime victory against LA Tech on February 28.

The Blazers have won three straight matches and are 5-0-1 in their last six games, while outscoring their opponents 24-4 in that span. UAB leads C-USA in scoring offense (2.9 gpg), total assists (20), total goals (26) and total points (72). The Blazers also rank ninth nationally in total goals and 11th nationally in total points.

UAB has played in one league match, defeating Southern Miss 2-1 in Birmingham on Feb. 26. The Blazers followed with a 6-0 drubbing of Columbus State. Lexxe Lipey leads C-USA with 15 points, while her total goals (seven) also lead the league and ranks eighth nationally. Laura Zemberyova leads C-USA and ranks ninth nationally with five assists.

Zemberyova and Stella Kiss have each tallied 11 points, ranking tied for third in the conference.

UTEP is 5-6-4 all-time versus UAB. The Miners played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime against the Blazers last season (October 3, 2019), and are winless (0-4-2) in the last six meetings. UTEP last defeated UAB 3-2 at University Field on October 5, 2012.
