Miner Women’s Golf set to compete at Wyoming Cowgirl Classic

The UTEP Women’s Golf team is set to open play at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, which is hosted by Wyoming and will take place on April 5-6.

UTEP will compete among a 20-team field beginning April 5 in Maricopa, Arizona. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,131-yard course at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. Participating teams will play 36 holes on Monday before wrapping up the event with the remaining 18 holes on Tuesday morning.

UTEP’s five golfers are set to tee off at 7:30 a.m. MT on Monday, while the final round will be a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. MT on Tuesday.

Last time out, the UTEP Women’s Golf team wrapped up play at the HBU Husky Invitational with the Miners finishing sixth as a team on March 16 at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas.

The Miners were led by sophomore Sophie Delfosse, who placed second overall among individuals with a three-round total of 213 (71-69-73) to finish at 3-under par for the event. Her second-round score of 69 is a career-low for Delfosse, while it also tied for the lowest score recorded by any individual at this week’s event.

UTEP opened play on Monday with a first-round team total of 306 to finish the morning tied for eighth. In the second round that same afternoon, the Miners posted their best round of the tournament, shooting a team total of 298 (+10) to close out the day in a tie for fifth place.

The Miners closed out the final round on Tuesday morning by shooting 307 as a group to finish the tournament in sixth place out of 11 teams. The Miners finished with a three-round team total of 911 (306-298-307).

The Miners will be one of 20 teams competing in this year’s Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, along with Wyoming, Boise State, Cal Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, GCU, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana State, Nevada, NM State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Santa Clara, Seattle, South Dakota State and Southern Utah.
