Texarkana, Ark. – The UTEP men’s golf team shot an opening round 14-over par 302 at the Texarkana Country Club on day one of the Conference USA Championships. The Miners are in 10th place.
No. 38 UAB is in first with a three-under par 285. LA Tech (286) is second and North Texas, Old Dominion and Marshall are all tied for third at 292.
Even after a rough day one the Miners are only 10 shots out of that coveted fourth-place position. After the initial 54 holes, the top four teams will advance to a match-play format.
Freshmen Andreas Sorenson led the way for the Orange and Blue with an even par 72. The Denmark native registered three birdies, 12 pars and three bogeys in his first career conference tournament round; he is tied for 10th place.
Junior Frederik Dreier made it into the clubhouse with a one-over par 73 that included four birdies, nine pars and five bogeys; he is tied for 16th after 18 holes.
Charlie Corner was unable to roll any birdies in on the day and he sits tied for 35th place at four-over par. His round consisted of 14 pars and four bogeys.
Nicklas Pihl is tied for 60th place at nine-over par (81) and Ben Getman is in 65th place at 14-over par (86).
Round two will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. (MT) and results will be provided at golfstat.com
