The UTEP football team will begin spring practice under second-year head coach Dana Dimel on Tuesday, March 5.
“I am looking forward to spring ball starting,” Dimel said. “Our main focus will be to develop our depth at all positions. We will also continue to develop our unity and leadership, as we work towards having a very rewarding 2019 season.”
The Miners’ spring slate will consist of 15 practices, culminating with the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 13, at 12 p.m. at the Sun Bowl.
All spring practices, except for the Spring Game, are tentatively scheduled to take place at Glory Field.
The Miners welcome their mid-year enrollees, including defensive back Miles Banks, tight end Rashad Beecham, defensive back Robert Corner III, quarterback TJ Goodwin, safety Ty’reke James, tight end Luke Laufenberg, defensive back Duron Lowe, linebacker Joe Jay Smith.
UTEP returns 49 letter-winners and a total of 12 starters, including seven on offense, four on defense and one on special teams. The Miner offense welcomes back quarterback Kai Locksley, running back Quardraiz Wadley, wide receiver Keynan Foster and four offensive linemen (Markos Lujan, Bobby DeHaro, Ruben Guerra and Zuri Henry).
Seniors Denzel Chukwukelu and Chris Richardson return to anchor the defensive line, while Sione Tupou will lead the linebackers and Michael Lewis the safeties. Punter Mitchell Crawford returns for his second season with the Miners.
UTEP opens the 2019 season against Houston Baptist on Saturday, August 31 at the Sun Bowl.
