Miners Conclude Day One at the Fresno State Classic

FRESNO, Ca. – The UTEP women’s golf team finished day one at the Fresno State Classic tied for 10th on Monday afternoon.

The Miners shot 25-over par (300-301—601) at the Copper River Country Club (par 72/6,200 yards). UC Davis leads the field with an astonishing 6-under par 570 (289-281). Grand Canyon (294-284—578) is in third place with a two-over par performance, after 36 holes.

Senior Lily Downs and sophomore Valeria Mendizabal lead the team, with both players finishing tied for 10th in competition. Downs (73-72) moved up four spots after the first round. While Mendizabal (72-73) found her groove at the start, with both players shooting a 1-over par 145.

Junior Shannon O’Dwyer sits tied for 42nd overall, finishing with an 8-over par 152 (75-77). Sophomore Taylor Stone (80-79) is tied for 69th, putting together a 15-over par 159. Freshman Naomi Ramirez (81-79) rounds out the team in 74th overall with a 16-over par 160.

Christine Danielsson (69-71) of UC Davis leads the field, punching in a 1-under 140 after two rounds.

The Orange and Blue with begin the final round of the competition with a shotgun start on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. MT.
