“We again had a solid performance today, winning six of 11 matches, including another win at the top doubles spot vs a very good team from NM State,” UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “Zu (Szczepanska) went undefeated today, winning both her doubles and singles. Overall, we had a positive weekend winning more than half of all our matches played. We saw a lot of good things from this weekend’s matches. We still have a lot of work to do but, I am confident we are heading in the right direction.”

Szczepanska and Veronika Lebisova got things going with a hard-fought 7-6 win against Anna Pinaieva and Natsuki Nishimura (NM State). Hanna Telzynska and Carlotta Mencaglia battled before coming up shy vs. Lisa Zhu and Valeriia Ivanovskaia (NM State), 6-4. Paloma Hennicaux and Emma Stuart were clipped by Whitney Moon and Dora Kurdi (NM State), 6-3.

Eight Miners were in action in singles, where it proved to be a solid showing up and down the roster. Mencaglia cruised past Pinaieva, 6-3, 6-3 while Stuart blasted Varvara Nikolaeva (NM State), 6-2, 6-1. Szczepanska drilled Kurdi, 6-1, 6-2, and Telzynska took care of business vs. Daniela Herrera (NM State), 6-2, 6-2. DeCora Antoine split the first two sets with Moon, 6-4, 4-6, before finding another gear in the super tiebreaker.
