The UTEP softball team (12-20) dropped two games to No. 15 Missouri (22-4) on Monday afternoon at the Helen of Troy Softball field by scores of 15-4 and 10-0.
In game one, the Tigers jumped on the Miners early, scoring 10 runs in the first and five in the second, highlighted by four home runs.
Taylor Sargent led the offensive attack for UTEP, who scored four runs in the first three innings. Sargent reached base in all three at bats recording two doubles and a walk on her way to knocking in two RBI and scoring a run. Hope Moreno tallied the Miners only other RBI when she knocked in Sargent on a single to centerfield.
Kansas native Dani Fincham came on relief and spotted the Miners with three shutout innings and she retired seven batters in a row at one point.
The second game featured Missouri’s Danielle Baumgartner tossing a one hitter in the second game on the way to picking up her ninth win of the year.
Kaitlin Fifield did a great job limiting Missouri’s potent offense by giving up three runs (one earned) in three innings of work. The El Paso native scattered seven hits while striking out two hitters and she stranded three runners on the base paths.
The Miners will take their 3-3 Conference USA record on the road this weekend to Miami, Fla., to take on FIU. A doubleheader will be played on Friday with a single scheduled for Saturday.
