Admission is free for all contests.
UTEP is coming off a split series against Odessa last Friday night. The Miners fell in game one 11-9, but scored seven runs in the seventh. The momentum was carried over as the Orange and Blue shutout the Wranglers 12-0 in the second contest.
Junior pitchers Kaitlin Fifield and Erika Harrawood combined for the shutout of the Wranglers. Junior infielder Kiki Pepi shined during the two games, connecting on four hits (two doubles). Pepi also scored a pair of runs, was walked three times and drove in a trio runs. Transfer junior outfielder Miranda Gutierrez tallied three RBI during the two-game set.
The Miners scored seven runs in the fourth frame during game two, led by sophomore Hope Moreno’s pair of RBI. Freshman infielder Anna O’Connor chipped in with a single that drove in a run, while sophomores Kaitlin Ryder and Linda Garcia registered an RBI each. Garcia also tallied a sac fly to left that scored senior Kawehiokalani Netane during the first inning.
Freshman Ariel Blair scored the game’s first run, using her lighting speed. Netane singled with Blair on first but an errand throw by the Wrangler’s third baseman flew past the first baseman and rolled to the right foul area. By the time the right fielder got to the ball, Blair had already crossed the dish.
UTEP will host two more fall games – Midland College on Oct. 9 (3 p.m.) and NM State on Oct. 11 (1 p.m.)
