College Station, Texas – The UTEP track and field team wrapped up the first day of action at the Texas A&M Invitational at E.B. Cushing Stadium on Friday night.
Highlighting the women’s team was freshman Roosa Yloenen in the javelin throw. The newcomer finished second with a personal-best mark of 50.44m. Yloenen mark currently rates 22nd nationally and first in Conference USA. Her throw also is the seventh all-time in the UTEP record book.
On the men’s side, Karol Koncos notched a second-place finish in the hammer throw in a field of 18 competitors. The junior posted a toss of 63.62m in his sixth and final attempt of the night.
In the women’s hammer throw, Cierra Chenault was the Miners top finisher, posting a ninth-place finish. The sophomore’s best throw was 47.94m registered in her first attempt. Freshman Samantha Cordier also competed in the hammer and took 12th overall.
Freshman Chantoba Bright took the field in the women’s long jump and finished 11th in a field of 26 competitors. The freshman recorded a leap of 5.72m in her second attempt.
