Miners Secure Top-Five Result at MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial

UTEP women’s golf tied for fifth in a 17-team field to open the season at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial over the past two days.

As a team, the Miners shot an 890 (293, 297, 300).

Two individuals led the way by tying for 13th with 218 54-hole totals, including sophomore Nawel Ben Letaief (71, 75, 72) and freshman Taline Kyoumjian (72, 72, 74) in her first collegiate event.

For Ben Letaief, the 2-over par 218 marked a career best. In the first round, she also shot a 1-under par 71 that was the lowest-round score of her time as a Miner so far. For the tournament, she compiled eight birdies.

Kyoumjian birdied on an impressive ten holes.

Daniela Chipchase (228), Luciana Origel (231) and Andrea Ostos (231) competed as well for UTEP, with Chipchase tying for 38th and Origel and Ostos tying for 51st.

On the team side, Oral Roberts won the tournament with a 4-over par 868 to sit eight-strokes ahead of second-place Austin Peay.

Individually, Sofia Chabon from Cal Baptist took home top honors with an 8-under par 208.

UTEP hits the course next at the Red Raider Invitational from Sept. 25-26.
