UTEP (2-9) will look to wrap up non-conference play on a high note when it plays host to CSU Bakersfield (4-8) in a special 1 p.m. matinee match-up Wednesday.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for kids but Miner Kids Club Members will receive free admission with their membership card. This is the first meeting between UTEP and CSU Bakersfield.
The contest marks the start of a four-game homestand for the Miners, with UTEP set to play host to UTSA (2 p.m. Jan. 1), LA Tech (7:05 p.m., Jan. 5) and Southern Miss (2 p.m., Jan. 7).
UTEP is off to its slowest start through 11 games since 1990-91 (2-9, eventually 2-11 that year). When looking at the record it is imperative to consider the Miners’ strength of schedule (83rd), which was boosted by a school-record five difference power conference programs on the docket, and the youth-laden roster.
Eight of the 12 active student-athletes on the Miners’ roster are in their first year of playing games at the D1 level. Moreover, there are seven freshmen (six true, one redshirt).
Steve Kaplowitz (play-by-play) and Traci Miller (color commentary) will have the call on 600 ESPN El Paso, KROD-AM Radio. There will be a live stream on UTEPAthletics (subscription based).
