LIHU’E, Kaua’i – The UTEP Men’s Golf team wrapped up the opening day of the John Burns Intercollegiate tied for 13th on Thursday at the Wailua Golf Course in Hawaii.
In Thursday’s opening round of play, the Miners finished the day 10-over-par with a team total of 298, while UNC Wilmington and BYU are atop the leaderboard at 1-under-par with identical scores of 287 in the first round.
UTEP was led by Oskar Ambrosius, who finished the day in a tie for 24th after shooting 73 (+1) on Thursday. Both Eduardo Gonzalez and Santiago Castilla each closed out the first day of competition in a tie for 38th after the two Miners shot 74 (+2) through the first 18 holes.
UTEP’s Greg Yellin wrapped up the opening day on the links by shooting 5-over 77, while Jacob Presutti closed out the action from day one by shooting 80 (+8) in the first round.
The second round of action is set to tee off at 11 a.m. MT on Friday, while the Miners will be paired with Grand Canyon, Santa Clara and Northern Colorado on day two of the John Burns Intercollegiate.
The third and final round of golf is scheduled for Saturday with an 11 a.m. MT shotgun start.
