On Monday, officials with MTC Facility in Otero County donated over 100 blankets and pillows to El Paso’s Opportunity Center.
“It will be a lot of help. Especially with the new shelter we have on Delta right now, and that is more than the population we had at the Opportunity Center, so we had to separate them,” said Alejandro Urbina who is part of the maintenance crew at Opportunity Center and has been part of this good cause since he was 11 years old.
MTC Facility also donated light jackets, pants and books to this non-profit organization. Assistant Warden Cesar Gomez, who grew up in El Paso, explains that the donation was an easy decision to make.
“It is an honor to be able to help and assist people that are in need. I know there is a lot of homeless people, and I know we can only survive if organizations like ours can assist in any manner,” Gomez shared.
“In this case we were able to help them out with blankets and pillows, if I can do anything else to assist the community and if I have such materials to share with other people we will be more than glad to continue doing what we are doing.”
The MTC Facility, located in Otero County just off US54 in Chaparral (NM), is run by MTC. According to their website, MTC operates 24 Job Corps centers, 22 correctional facilities, 11 prison and detention medical departments, 5 detention centers, one probation and parole contract, and one workforce development site worldwide.
