This week, officials with NAMI El Paso announced a familiar face as their new Executive Director, as Isidro Torres takes the helm.
“It has been such an honor having worked with NAMI El Paso over the years and it is such a privilege to take on this new role. I am so excited to continue to work to help support and educate El Pasoans who live with mental health conditions and their families. As we get closer to the end of this pandemic, it is imperative that we come together and work to bring awareness to mental health and support our community,” says Torres.
Torres has been serving as interim Executive Director since September 2020. Torres was born and raised in El Paso. He received his bachelor’s in organizational communication from the University of Texas El Paso in 2017 and is currently in the Executive MBA program.
He has over five years of nonprofit experience across the city. During Torres’s time with NAMI El Paso he has been a volunteer, Board Director, part of the staff, and Interim Executive Director.
NAMI El Paso’s Board President Melissa Carrillo says the Board is grateful for Torres’ immense passion and dedication to serve NAMI El Paso and the mental health community.
NAMI El Paso hopes to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health in the Borderland through educational classes, presentations, advocacy, and support groups.
The NAMI El Paso Board of Directors voted unanimously for Torres to be the Executive Director last week.
