TNTM DC Comics debuts Chinese Super-man

New Super-man

The DC Comics Rebirth initiative promises to bring a lot of our favorite characters back and explain the whole continuity gap that was introduced by the New 52.

What isn’t getting a lot of attention is the fact they are introducing a new character with a very familiar name.

Kenan Kong is a young Chinese man.  He is given Superman’s powers.  How he gets these powers hasn’t been released yet.  So to recap it for you, the New 52 Superman is dead, the pre-New 52 Superman is reluctant to be a superhero again, and we now have a brand new Super-man (notice the hyphen) from China.  This should be interesting.

We don’t know if Super-man is going to remain in China and fight mostly Chinese villains or if he is going to team up with other superheroes to fight crime on a larger scale.  Either way will be okay with me as long as they develop the character well.  Since these powers are thrust upon him with no training whatsoever, I am thinking they might use the “Greatest American Hero” approach.

Super-man 1 Super-man 2

If you are unfamiliar with the “Greatest American Hero”, the main character is given a super powered suit by an alien race.  It came with a user’s manual, which he promptly lost.  He learns how to use the suit through trial and error.  It was a great show that really should have it’s own movie, but that is for another article to discuss.

This comic is scheduled to be on the shelves in your favorite comic book store on July 13, 2016.
