The Housing Authority of the City of El Paso, Texas (HACEP) is partnering with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to conduct a first-of-its-kind training for local construction contractors to appropriately administer federal labor standards when bidding on jobs that have federal requirements and/or utilize federal funds.
As HACEP continues its steadfast approach leading the nation’s first Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program, in which HACEP is addressing the infrastructure and capital improvement needs for its properties, the need for high quality construction work will continue to increase.
This free federal labor standards training will equip construction contractors with the information they will need to potentially meet the requirements for any competitive bid process for developments happening across the region.
“To guarantee the best quality of work is to ensure a competitive process that attracts the best,” shares Danette Martinez, HACEP’s Accounting Manager. “So this kind of training will not only benefit HACEP but also any other government entity that is in pursuit of some type of development project.”
All throughout the region, there are a number of development projects happening overseen by a variety of entities, including government agencies. Each government agency requires a different set of standards that each contractor must meet.
Therefore, this training will cover a range of topics that include: applicability, correct wage determination, work classifications, payroll reporting and any additional classifications based on the bid proposal.
Sponsored by HUD’s Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement Region VI and hosted by HACEP, this FREE training will take place Tuesday, March 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 5300 East Paisano Drive.
Representatives directly from HUD will be conducting the training. Registration is also free and can be done same day on-site beginning at 8:30 a.m. or online at http://bit.ly/FLSTrng. Any contractor or subcontractor who has worked directly with HUD or other local agencies or would like to is strongly encouraged to attend.
