Nickevea Wilson Named USTFCCCA Mountain Region Athlete of the Year

For the second time in her career, Nickevea Wilson was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Mountain Region Field Athlete of the Year on Friday afternoon.

The senior was already named the C-USA Female Field Performer of the Meet earlier this morning.

Wilson will take the 11th-best triple jump in the nation to the NCAA Championships next weekend at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

She scored 15 points last week at the C-USA Indoor Championships to help the UTEP women’s team secure its second straight conference title.

Her personal-best triple jump of 13.22m (43-4.50) at the Don Kirby Invitational in mid February punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships.; the mark of 13.22m is the fifth best in program history.

During the season, she captured gold in the triple jump at the Lumberjack Team Challenge (12.96m) and C-USA Championships (12.92m) and secured silver at the Don Kirby Invitational (13.22m), Texas A&M Invitational (12.54m) and the New Mexico Cherry & Silver event (12.63m).

She first received the honor as a freshman in 2013.
