NM State scored seven runs in the fourth inning, while collecting 13 hits on the evening, as it defeated UTEP, 12-0, in five innings at Tuesday night at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
The Miners (19-25) tallied one hit, a double to left by Hope Moreno, while Fiana Finau of the Aggies (29-19) finished the contest 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
With the score 2-0 in the second inning, UTEP got a pair of runners on as Taylor Sargent walked to lead off and Moreno connected on a double with no outs. But the Miners couldn’t advance the runners, thus ending the frame.
Courtney Clayton was the only other Miner to reach base as she walked in the third.
First-place UTEP (10-5 Conference USA) will host UAB (9-6 C-USA) in a critical West Division matchup onApril 23-24 at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, while game two will start 30 minutes after game one. Sunday’s contest is slated for a noon start.
