NM State Softball Tops UTEP 6 to 3

NM State scored four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a Tatum Reedy three-run home run that surged the Aggies past UTEP, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.

The Aggies scored first on a Fiana Finau one-run single during the first inning, but Hope Moreno gave the Miners a 2-1 lead with a two-run single in the second frame.

After the top of the third inning with the Aggies up 5-2, Kiki Pepi singled in Cortney Smith in the bottom half, cutting the deficit. But Nue Sivia RBI single in the sixth put her squad up 6-3, while the Miners couldn’t sustain any more runs.

Danielle Pearson, who came in relief for starting hurler Erika Harrawood, tossed four innings, allowing one run and tallying a pair of strikeouts. Pearson also allowed only three hits and walked none.

UTEP recorded eight hits on the day, led by a pair of Pepi singles. Kaitlin Ryder and Taylor Sargent also scored a run each. Smith added a double to her stat line as well.

UTEP finished the fall season with a 6-2 record, including a pair of wins over Midland College on Oct. 9. The Miners defeated Midland 17-3 in game one and 6-5 in the second contest.
