NMSU Career Services to Host job fair for Educators Today

New Mexico State University Career Services will hold its 42nd annual Educators’ Job Fair from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, April 18, at the Corbett Center Student Union on the third floor.

The event will provide graduating education students, experienced professionals and education support staff, such as nurses and social workers, with an opportunity to interview with multiple school districts located throughout the region and the United States.

Elizabeth Ortega, with NMSU Career Services and coordinator of the event, said the job fair has been one of the most effective recruiting forums in the Southwest, and is unique in that it is set up for participants to have structured interviews with prospective school district employers.

Over 60 diverse school districts from over 10 states are expected to attend the fair. Anyone who qualifies for teacher credentials and is seeking a K-12 teaching position, a support staff or administrative position for the 2016-2017 school year is encouraged to participate.

“During last year’s event, about 185 participants registered and participated in the job fair,” Ortega said. “Given the current job market for educators, interested candidates are invited to take advantage of the face-to-face contact with school district personnel.”

On-site registration will be available at the job fair. However, participants are encouraged to pre-register online prior to the event. By doing so, candidates can ensure scheduled interviews with selected employers. Information and assistance regarding online registration is available by calling 575-646-5012 or via email at proemp@nmsu.edu

Ortega suggests that attendees research and prepare as much as possible prior to the job fair.

“They should learn as much as they can about the school districts they are interested in, as well as factors such as the cost of living in a particular area,” Ortega said. “Advance job search homework could yield a number of exciting employment possibilities.”

Career Services staff members will be available to assist interested candidates in preparing for the fair from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at the Corbett Center Student Union third floor.
