This Friday, the New Mexico State University Chile Pepper Institute will host a special plant sale in celebration of Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year.
The sale – set Friday, February 12th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Fabian Garcia Science Center (113 W. University Ave.) – will take place outdoors, following COVID-19 safety protocols outlined in the NMSU Now pandemic action plan, and will feature holiday-themed ornamental pepper plants, chocolates, brownie mixes, hot sauce combos and chile pepper seeds.
Attendees must wear face masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines at all times.
“We will have ornamental pepper plants named after Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year available for $4 each,” said Liza Lopez, program coordinator for the Chile Pepper Institute.
“We developed these plants at NMSU, and they are a colorful, long-lasting alternative to roses and other more traditional Valentine’s Day flowers. Peppers are also traditional on Chinese New Year, which happens to be the day of our sale.”
All proceeds from this sale benefit chile pepper research and education at NMSU. For more information, contact 575-646-3028 or [email protected]
