New Mexico State University is one of three universities recognized with this year’s APPA Award for Excellence in Facilities Management.
The award recognizes excellence in educational facilities operations and highlights the essential role facilities operations plays in overall institutional mission and vision, APPA officials said. The Award for Excellence designation is valid for five years.
“The entire team in New Mexico State University Facilities and Services is extremely proud of this achievement and that is exactly how we think about it, that we received this award primarily because we place a premium on teamwork,” said Glen Haubold, NMSU associate vice president for facilities.
APPA, previously known as the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, promotes leadership in educational facilities for professionals seeking to build their careers, transform their institutions, and elevate the value and recognition of facilities in education.
“The institutions that receive the Award for Excellence are true leaders in educational facilities management,” said Paul Wuebold, APPA’s vice president of professional affairs and chair of the Awards and Recognition Committee. “In 2008, NMSU used the APPA Award for Excellence criteria to develop an Outline for Excellence for the institution’s facilities. Regular progress checks to ensure the Outline’s goals were on track have resulted in a facilities department that is a standard-bearer for the industry. NMSU’s Las Cruces campus and satellite facilities across New Mexico provide the highest quality educational facilities to serve the student population and community as a whole.”
Award for Excellence nominations are in the areas of leadership; strategic and operational planning; customer focus; information and analysis; development and management of human resources; process management; and performance results. Nominated institutions also submit to a site review conducted by an awards evaluation team.
Ohio State University and University of Texas at San Antonio also were honored with the 2016 Award for Excellence. All three recipient institutions were recognized July 13 during an awards banquet at the 2016 APPA Annual Conference in Nashville.
