While Orange Fever Fiesta, the annual fundraiser for UTEP Athletics, is just five days away, fans can get online now and bid on items.
The funds raised at “Orange Fever Fiesta” will directly support Miner student-athletes and help UTEP Athletics navigate the current college sports landscape during this unprecedented time.
Additionally, former Texas Western football player and long-time UTEP supporter Larry K. Durham has stepped forward and offered to match up to $150,000 raised at this year’s event.
“It is an exceptional privilege for me to support the Athletic Department at UTEP,” said Durham. “I feel fortunate to have participated in and benefited from the athletic program. Once a Miner, always a Miner!”
“Larry has been an incredible donor to UTEP Athletics over the years and this latest commitment comes at a time when we need people to get involved and help out,” said Director of Athletics Jim Senter.
“We can’t thank him enough and we hope that others will follow Larry’s lead and join him in supporting the Miners. What we do this week and on Saturday night can really determine UTEP’s direction during this pandemic and, ultimately, how we emerge from it. It is our goal to come out stronger and be positioned for new levels of success across the board.”
“Orange Fever Fiesta” is set for this Saturday (Aug. 15) at 7 pm and will be completely virtual. Thanks to a partnership with KVIA-TV, the event will be broadcast live and streamed online. “Orange Fever Fiesta” will be shown live on the El Paso – Las Cruces CW as well as streamed live at online.
This year’s “Orange Fever Fiesta” event carries even more importance as the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the UTEP Athletics budget, especially the student-athlete scholarship fund. With that in mind, the goal is to raise a record amount (minimum $225,000) at this year’s event.
