In the face of COVID-19 and unprecedented calls for social services and social justice, communities across the country and right here in El Paso are relying on their non-profit organizations like never before. Now residents of the Borderland can all help by participating in the Paso del Norte Community Foundation’s 5th Annual El Paso Giving Day, set for Thursday, October 15, 2020.
“Over the last five years, El Paso Giving Day has raised more than $4 million for local charities,” said Tracy Yellen, CEO of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation. “Each year, the Paso del Norte Community Foundation invites you to act, give and change our community for the better, but this year that invitation comes with the opportunity to show participating organizations how much we appreciate the work they are doing to ensure the resilience of our communities in a time unlike any other.”
More than 185 non-profit organizations supporting causes ranging from animal welfare to social justice to healthcare are registered to participate in this year’s event.
Organizers share that donations as small as $10 will be accepted and donors don’t have to wait until El Paso Giving Day to make a donation. A weeklong period of early giving will begin on October 8.
“In the spirit of friendly competition, we’ve assembled a slate of fun and exciting prizes to encourage non-profit organizations to really maximize excitement among their donors,” said Casie Pedregon, the PdNCF’s Development Coordinator for El Paso Giving Day.
“Non profit organizations who increase their total number of donors during early giving will be eligible for a $500 prize. There are also tens of thousands of dollars of Power Hour prizes and other incentives which will be available to eligible non-profits on October 15.”

Organizers say one of the biggest prizes of the day will come from Walmart, which will match donations up to $300,000 for gifts made online between 12am and 11:59pm MDT on Thursday, October 15, through ElPasoGivingDay.org until matching funds are met.

Organizers are asking everyone to hashtag #EPGivingDay in support of the event on social media.
