The beauty, vivid colors and traditions of El Paso culture are coming to life on walls throughout The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso this Spring.
Mall officials announced Friday that select El Paso artists have been recruited to utilize their unique approaches and stylings to decorate the property as part of a mural series occurring on various weekends through May.
This weekend’s featured artist is Eugenia “AO” Carmona, a native El Pasoan who has also lived in various regions throughout Mexico. Eugenia attended New Mexico State University in neighboring Las Cruces to study Visual Arts before transferring to the University of North Texas in Denton.
She defines her artistic style as “Neo Folk Abstract”, an approach heavily influenced by artisanal and handcrafted objects/textiles made by indigenous cultures around the world.
The mural she will be creating is titled Primavera en el Otoño (Springtime in the Fall) and will be a colorful representation of the resilience needed to overcome, endure, and persevere through hardship.
Eugenia’s artwork can also be found at Galería Lincoln in Central El Paso.
Shoppers can currently enjoy the most recently completed mural by local artist Paola Martinez, a piece inspired by Mexican folklore sculptures known as alebrijes. The homage to our Chihuahuan desert also features a jackrabbit, part of Paola’s nod to regional flora and fauna.
