With the dog days of summer coming to an end, outdoor municipal pools will be drained, and before that happens, dogs and their owners are invited to swim and splash at the Doggie Swimming Day event this weekend.
Dogs – and their pet parents – are welcome from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 7, and Sunday, September 8, at Nations Tobin Aquatic Center located at 8831 Railroad.
The annual dog-only event gives dogs an opportunity to swim, dog paddle, fetch, and splash and play in the pool.
Admission is $2 per dog (pet owners are free). Pet owners must bring a paper copy of their dog’s shot records (no screenshots will be accepted).
Dogs that only have collar tags will not be allowed to participate. All shot records must show current rabies, distemper and parvo information.
The event includes pet-friendly vendors and a pet contest for the cutest swimsuit, dog splash and dog paddle. In addition, the Animal Services Department will be offering free pet microchips for the first 50 pets.
Also, pets that already have a microchip can have their microchip checked to ensure their owner’s information is up-to-date. The Animal Rescue League will also be offering onsite pet adoptions.
