Officials with the Paso del Norte Community Foundation took time to thank the people of El Paso and seven other Texas and New Mexico cities, as well as Entravision TV and radio, who came together to raise a total of $199,302 during the El Paso Strong Telethon and Radiothon for the victims and families affected by the tragic events of August 3, 2019.
The donations included a $30,000 designation for a scholarship fund that was created by the Paso del Norte Community Foundation’s philanthropy partners CommUnity en Acción, to help fund the education of the minor children of victims of the tragedy.
All other donations were made directly to the El Paso Victims Relief Fund.
The Paso del Norte Community Foundation established the El Paso Victims Relief Fund in partnership with the City of El Paso to provide direct support to the victims and families affected by the tragedy of August 3, 2019.
The El Paso Strong Telethon and Radiothon was simulcast live from El Paso’s KINT-TV Noticias 26 Univision to Entravision TV and radio stations in San Angelo, Lubbock, Midland, McAllen, Laredo, Corpus Christi and Albuquerque.
The radiothon was broadcast simultaneously on Entravision’s Spanish and English radio stations in El Paso: La Suavecita 93.9, La Tricolor 94.7 and The Fox 92.3.
In addition to donations made online, by phone and text, many individual community members, families and businesses also came to the Entravision studios at 5426 North Mesa to make donations and show support to the families who were directly affected by the tragedy.
The Paso del Norte Community Foundation is coordinating its efforts with the City of El Paso, along with the organization One Fund, to ensure the highest level of transparency and accountability.
Officials with both the PdNCF and Univision said, “The outpouring of love and generosity from El Paso and other communities is truly what makes us El Paso Strong.”
The Paso del Norte Community Foundation also thanks members of the El Paso community, including El Paso Mayor Dee Margo, U.S. Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, Texas Senator Jose Rodriguez, members of El Paso City Council, El Paso County Commissioner’s Court; and local folklorico groups, musicians, entertainers, wrestler Sin Cara and more, for appearing on the telethon and helping raise awareness about the needs of victims and their families.
The Paso del Norte Community Foundation was founded in 2013 to support the philanthropic goals of the El Paso community, including individuals, corporations, foundations and non-profits.
With 80 donor-advised funds, designated funds and supporting organizations, the Paso del Norte Foundation manages assets and funds grants that support a wide range of projects aimed at improving the health, education, economic development and quality of life in the El Paso region, Southern New Mexico and Ciudad Juárez.
