Officials with the regional pet supply store, Pet’s Barn, say they have developed a unique food item to keep dogs calm during the 4th of July fireworks.
Tuesday morning, Pet’s Barn officials rolled out “Chill Chews,” a soft wafer with ingredients to help calm a pet’s nerves during the 4th of July holiday, a period when the booms of fireworks cause the largest increase of runaway dogs.
“We just hope this will help reduce the amount of runaway dogs over the 4th,” said Dean Travis, Pet’s Barn owner.
The chews’ active ingredients include chamomile and tryptophan, ingredients naturally found in calming teas and turkey respectively.
“There is no CBD in the chews, and it’s important to note that these are not treats,” Travis said.
Travis said there will also be discounted engraved pet I.D. tags for $1.99 (regular price $5.99) until July 3rd. Pet’s Barn locations will be closed for the holiday on July 4th.
Officials add that the ‘Chill Chews’ will be offered free of charge starting from June 21 and while supplies last, at any Pet’s Barn location (in-store only).
