On this week’s episode of the “Picks Up Podcast,” Jon Teicher checks in with UTEP Assistant Athletic Director for Football Operations Nate Poss.
Poss shares memories from nearly a quarter century working with the Miners, and discusses the behind-the-scenes work that he performs to get the team ready to play every week.
He joined the UTEP staff in March 1997 as director of football operations. Now the assistant athletic director for football operations, Poss’ duties are wide-range, most importantly helping head coach Dana Dimel in the day-to-day operations of Miner football.
He’s responsible for organizing and implementing team travel, arranges and coordinates UTEP’s preseason camp both in El Paso and Ruidoso, N.M., and is responsible for the Miner football players’ summer job placement around El Paso.
Poss also helps arrange community service appearances for Miner players and coaches, particularly with local school, the Child Crisis Center and the Boys and Girls Club. The football team has annually ranked among UTEP’s top sports programs in community service hours.
The weekly “Picks Up Podcast,” with special guests including Miner coaches, staff, student-athletes and alumni, takes an inside look at UTEP Athletics, offering perspectives and analysis not available anywhere else.
