FT. WORTH, Texas – Freshman Bailey Powell fired a career-high 1168 to pace the UTEP rifle team in its regular-season finale at TCU Saturday. The Miners recorded a road match season-high 4616, which will help with NCAA rankings and qualifying, while the homestanding Horned Frogs finished with a team aggregate of 4714.
Powell shot a personal-best 577 in smallbore while recording a squad-high 591 in air rifle to achieve the career-best aggregate.
Sophomore Haylee Schoenrock enjoyed a career day, setting a personal best in aggregate (1154). She used a career-high matching 586 in air rifle while recording a 568 in smallbore.
Senior Rachael Schoenrock posted an aggregate of 1152, firing a 574 in smallbore and 578 in air rifle. Freshman Abby Monique finished with an aggregate of 1135. She shot 557 in smallbore and 578 in air rifle.
Sophomore Maranda Nelson registered an aggregate of 1130. She registered 561 in smallbore and 569 in air rifle. Freshman Mara Rouse recorded an aggregate of 1121. She shot 564 in smallbore and 557 in air rifle.
UTEP will return to action while playing host to Nevada in its NCAA Qualifier match at 11 a.m. MST Feb. 18. As part of the celebration surrounding National Girls & Women In Sports Day, there will be “Lunch with the UTEP Rifle Team.” Admission is free.
