Project Vida Awarded $198k for Microenterprise Economic Development

On Thursday, officials with Project Vida announced that the organization had been awarded $198,933 in support of its Microenterprise Technical Assistance Program (MTAP).

MTAP offers business, financial and management literacy to low- and moderate-income (LMI) micro-business owners throughout the City and County of El Paso.

“Using a community health worker/promotora model of outreach and trust-building,”  Project Vida officials shared, “MTAP has served thousands of microenterprises. In the last six years alone, the program enrolled 923 LMI micro-business owners, retained 672 jobs and created 595 new jobs.”

Those contributing to MTAP in FY 2019-2020 include the City of El Paso Community Development Block Grant (HUD) $90,000; Bank of America $32,500; United Way of El Paso County $15,333; GECU Foundation $10,000; El Paso Electric $10,000; LiftFund $8,600; BBVA Foundation $7,500; Wells Fargo Foundation $5,000; WestStar Bank $5,000; Hunt Family Foundation $5,000; Tropicana Homes $5,000; and the John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation $5,000.

According to officials, the mission of Project Vida – established in 1991 – is to “identify the comprehensive vision of the community for its future and to develop community-based structures and programs to implement that vision in light of the needs and direction of the wider society.”

Project Vida provides multiple services and programs throughout El Paso and Hudspeth Counties.  For more information, contact Project Vida Co-Director Bill Schlesinger at w.schlesinger@pvida.net.
